The practical difference is that a plug-in device is found in seconds in a location everyone knows, while a concealed hardwired system requires searching a vehicle without knowing where to look. Will hardwiring drain my battery?

A correctly installed system draws very little and is designed for continuous connection. Battery drain after an installation indicates an installation problem, not a normal characteristic — it should be addressed immediately.

Does it work if a thief disconnects the battery?
