What Is a Security Deposit?
A security deposit is a refundable amount held against your card for the length of the rental. It is not part of the rental rate and it is not a fee. It sits there, untouched, unless something happens that costs the owner money.
Exotic and performance vehicles carry higher repair costs than an economy rental, so the deposit exists to cover the gap between something going wrong and the bill arriving. In the large majority of rentals, nothing is deducted and the full amount is released.
It is refundable
The deposit is returned in full once the vehicle is inspected and no chargeable issues are found. It is held, not spent.
It is separate from the rate
Your daily rate and your deposit are two different numbers. Ask for both when you request a quote so the total is never a surprise.
It covers real costs only
Damage, unpaid tolls, traffic citations, fuel, towing, and cleaning beyond ordinary use. Documented costs — not arbitrary deductions.

Why the amount varies
A higher-value vehicle carries a higher replacement and repair cost, so it carries a higher deposit. Rental length matters too — a longer booking means more exposure to tolls, mileage and wear before the vehicle comes back.
When you request a quote, ask for the daily rate, the deposit amount, and the mileage allowance together. Those three numbers give you the real cost of the rental.
A deposit is required on every rental. If a company quotes you a rate for an exotic with no deposit at all, ask what happens if the car is damaged — someone is carrying that risk, and it is worth knowing who.

How to Get Your Full Deposit Back
Most deposit disputes come down to one thing: no record of the car's condition before the rental started. A few minutes at handoff removes almost all of that risk for both sides.
Document at pickup
Walk the car with us and record a slow video of all four sides, the wheels and the interior. Note the fuel level and mileage. This is your baseline, and it protects you more than anyone.
Drive within the agreement
Stay inside the approved area and mileage allowance, use the required fuel grade, keep the cabin clean, and follow the rules on the driver's card you receive at handoff.
Return it the way you got it
Same fuel level, same condition, on time, at the agreed location. Be present for the return inspection if you can — questions get resolved on the spot instead of by phone later.
The return video is worth as much as the pickup video. Record the car once more at drop-off and keep both until your deposit is released.

If a deduction is made
You receive documentation of the charge. The deposit is applied first against what is owed, and any remaining balance of the deposit is returned to you.
If the deposit is not enough
Where documented costs exceed the deposit, the balance is owed separately. This is uncommon and typically involves collision damage rather than a cleaning or toll charge.
After the return
When Do You Get It Back?
The deposit is held until the vehicle is inspected after return. That inspection typically happens within 24 to 72 hours, and the deposit is released once it is complete and no chargeable issues are found.
Once released on our side, the timing you actually see depends on your bank or card issuer. A hold on a credit card usually drops off faster than funds returning to a debit account — if it has been several business days beyond our release, that gap is on the issuer's end, and your bank can confirm it.

Is the security deposit charged or just held?
It is held, not spent. The amount is authorized against your card for the rental period and released after the return inspection, subject to any documented deductions.
Can I use a debit card for the deposit?
Ask when you book. Card requirements are confirmed as part of the reservation. Be aware that with a debit card the funds actually leave your available balance during the hold, where a credit card authorization does not.
Does the deposit replace insurance?
No. Qualifying auto insurance that covers your operation of the rental is required separately, and the deposit does not substitute for it. Check with your insurer about coverage for a rented exotic before you book.
What if I find damage that was already there?
Tell us at handoff before you drive away, and make sure it is captured in your pickup video and the condition record. Pre-existing damage that is documented at pickup is not charged to you.
Can I be charged after the deposit is returned?
Yes, in limited situations — a toll or citation issued during your rental can arrive weeks later, and some mechanical damage is not visible at return. Your rental agreement sets out this window and what it covers.
Does a longer rental mean a bigger deposit?
Rental length is one of the factors in setting the amount, along with the specific vehicle. Ask for the deposit figure for your exact dates when you request your quote.
